Man-Making: Men Helping Boys on their Journey to Manhood

What Parents Can Do

This session is about helping parents to find good men to be man-makers for their boys. In the best of parent/child relationships, there are still many gifts that a boy can only get from a non-parent adult male. In this breakout or workshop program we will explore some of the actions motivated parents can take to establish a positive and supportive mentoring relationship between their son and a good man.

We will discuss topics such as:

  • Where to find good men
  • How to be sure that you have the right man for the job
  • Exploring some of the many ways a parent can support a developing man-boy relationship
  • Special considerations for dads
  • Special considerations for moms

There will be storytelling, readings, a checklist or two, and a chance to learn from each other. A parent who is interested in building man-making relationships for boys will leave this session with a solid "how to" prescription and the tools to get started.
